Close to 25,000 Experiencing Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Storms

Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the state, bringing wind gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Ice Stones and Widespread Damage

Locals observed giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, around one thousand households in the southern state also experienced energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various emergency calls
• Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests

At one point on Sunday, over 28k power users in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this coming days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the wettest day, with continued thunderstorm potential anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
