Micky van de Ven Brace Halts Everton's Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Home Ground

The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at each end of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, the manager opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his second in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defensive duties, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo handled superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The break in the team's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had scored just one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after replacing Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
